PROGRAMME OF THE TRAINING ACTIVITIES (DAY BY DAY)

DAY 1
• arrival and registration
• 18:00 -20:00 – informal meeting and gathering, participants bring some sweets or snacks which present their home country

DAY 2
9:00
• presentation of LUP and course team
• briefing on objectives, course programme and theme, introduction to the aims and methods of the course, as well as competences
• each participant gives a 5-minute presentation on the symbol of their city
• 11:00-11:30 Coffee break
• VOICE AND DICTION EXERCISES – exercises which help pronunciation, make the speech clearer and relax the speaker
• LECTURE – Preparing and delivering presentations, using verbal and non-verbal language, understanding the audience, useful tips and hints (How to handle difficult audience? How to handle questions and comments? What to do when you fail?)
• 13:00-14:00 Lunch break
• LECTURE –Listening Skills – “Active Listening – Effective Communication”: paying attention to the content, meaning and presenting, distinguishing key points from supporting information, adequate methods in taking notes, composing feedback, responding appropriately
• WORKSHOP – focusing on content and ignoring speech impediments; tips for teachers – teaching students with speech impediments; analysing audio material with different examples of speech impediments
• 19:00 Dinner

DAY 3
• 9:00 VOICE AND DICTION EXERCISES- exercises which help pronunciation, make the speech clearer and relax the speaker
• LECTURE – Eye and Brain – the difference between looking and seeing (basic and advanced skills); psychological approach to the elements of brain functioning in the domain of senses; analysing visual material
• 11:00-11:30 Coffee break
• WORKSHOP –Dealing with Stage Fright ; how to overcome speech anxiety,physical characteristics of stage fright
• 13:00-14:00 Lunch break
• Guided tour of Rijeka and Opatija. Participants visit main monuments and sights of Rijeka and Opatija,use newly acquired knowledge on site and discuss different presentations and approaches of the course team. Participants work on the group assignment: they need to take photos and choose one icon or symbol visited that will be presented by a group on a final day

DAY 4
• 9:00 VOICE AND DICTION EXERCISES- exercises which help pronunciation, make the speech clearer and relax the speaker
• LECTURE – Hidden Symbols – reading and understanding pictures, discovering deep meanings of visual symbols and pictures and articulating them, understanding original meaning of images within the real and virtual setting
• 11:00-11:30 Coffee break
• WORKSHOP with visual material –practical group work: analysis and presentation. How to use it in a classroom.
• 13:00-14:00 Lunch break
• Visit to a monastery and medieval castle in Trsat – understanding art in context; interpreting the location of the art piece and its relation to the meaning; pointing out the importance of the spatial arrangement in the interpretation of a work of art
• 19:00 Dinner

DAY 5
• A day field trip to Istria with WORKSHOPS – how to present cultural heritage; presentation essentials: using different teaching methods outside the classroom; how to engage, influence and motivate your audience, how to stress the need and importance of the in-situ presentation in dealing with cultural heritage
• VOICE AND DICTION EXERCISES in different ambient conditions
• Lunch

DAY 6
• 9:00 VOICE AND DICTION EXERCISES- exercises which help pronunciation, make the speech clearer and relax the speaker
• LECTURE –Part I- How to Look at, Understand and Present Visual Art; providing sufficient contextual material, seeing through the eyes of the contemporaries, using modern technology to present art pieces; Part II-Examples of different presentation softwares
• 11:00-11:30 Coffee break
• WORKSHOP – participants design their presentations, guided by the course organizers
• 13:00-14:00 Lunch break
• WORKSHOP –Train the Trainer!-participants give their presentations,receive individual feedback and practice giving constructive feedback on other presentations;useful tips and hints for classroom work in adult training
• FINAL PRESENTATION – each group presents the group work. Expanding on the European dimension of the course; final discussion and questions
• Evaluation of the course
• 19:00 Dinner

• Check-out and departure
